Coca-Cola Great Britain Adds 'Recycle Now' Logo On-Pack To Motivate Consumers
From January 2008, Coca-Cola Great Britain will be incorporating the 'Recycle Now' Recycle Mark on packaging across the 16 soft drinks brands in its portfolio. The roll out will start with all variants of 'Coca-Cola', 'diet Coke' and 'Coke Zero' which together this year will give consumers a total of 1.8 billion opportunities to see the clear new recycling logo. The other brands in the Coca-Cola Great Britain portfolio will add the new logo throughout the course of the year.
The introduction of the well-known logo is part of the 'Coca-Cola' packaging sustainability strategy, a key part of which is to strengthen and improve communication about the recyclability of its drinks packaging to consumers.
WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) statistics reveal that on average we only recycle about 31% of all recyclable materials. Ensuring a clear and consistent call to action on all Coca-Cola Great Britain's packaging materials, the vast majority of which are 100% recyclable and which contain significant amounts of recycled material, is just one step to encouraging consumers to recycle more often. Another new initiative is being launched on the cardboard outer wraps of multipack aluminium cans of 'Coca-Cola' and 'Coke Zero' this month - short inspirational messages about the benefits of recycling cans aimed at giving consumers another reason to recycle.
Lauren Branston, Communications Director at Coca-Cola Great Britain said: "We know that currently consumers are frustrated at the mix of recycling messages out there and we wanted to make our own on-pack recycling messaging as clear and consistent as possible. The introduction of the 'Recycle Now' logo to our packaging is just one milestone in the work we will be doing this year to encourage consumers to recycle more often."
Fridey Cordingley, Head of 'Recycle Now' at WRAP said: "We are delighted that a brand as well known as 'Coca-Cola' is putting our Recycle Now logo onto its packaging. This is a great step forward which will help to encourage and remind many more people to recycle."
'Coca-Cola', 'Coke' and 'diet Coke' are registered trade marks of The Coca-Cola Company.
